Pupil Premium is extra government funding given to schools in England to help improve outcomes for children who may face disadvantage. It is usually linked to children who are eligible for free school meals (now or at any point in the last six years) and helps schools provide additional support such as tutoring, pastoral care, enrichment opportunities and resources. For families, it is important to know that Pupil Premium is not a payment to parents but funding for the school that directly benefits your child and others. 

Even if your child does not wish to take a free school meal, it is still really important to apply. Registering unlocks funding for the school, which can be used to support learning, wellbeing, trips, clubs, uniform support and wider opportunities. In contrast, universal free meals (for younger children) do not trigger this funding—only a formal application does.
